Secret trials, kiddiefiddling and non-specific bumfoolery

The prosecution service in England has been pushing for a secret trial for two suspects, referred to as AB and CD. The English Court of Appeal has turned this down. There are very strict restrictions on what can be reported and much of the trial will be in camera for what I assume are reasons of nat...

Re: What sports teams do you support?

Le Mans weekend this Saturday-Sunday. Very interesting technological battle between AUDI, Porsche and Toyota, explained here.

Re: Completely foreseen consequences.

Having calmed down somewhat I should probably point out that I have a small number of English friends, all solidly middleclass, all white (apart from one whose mum is black as your hat West Indian), all liberal up to a point, who genuinely aren't bigoted but who still have difficulty with things lik...

Re: Location, Location, Location

Not the one I'm thinking of, though it may have had a scene there.

Edit: I think I can accept Gandhi, it had a couple of scenes in Delhi parks and as I'm not sure I had the right one anyway for my film, which was Monsoon Wedding which is a bit of a chick flick but I would heartily recommend it.

Completely foreseen consequences.

Schools in the UK used to be straightforward, you went to a state run school or you went to a private school (confusingly called a "public school" in England). Both were supervised by the local authorities and the former were government run and in theory uniform. Home schooling is virtuall...

Re: The fucking BBC, political bias this time

Aye, because a cure for cancer is just round the corner . . .

I'm curious how much "UK" money is donated from Scotland in the first place, usually in tv led campaigns we punch above our weight.

Re: Location, Location, Location

Perhaps a quick trip to the Subcontinent while we wait. I suspect this is the wrong park but the look is similar. Most of the action takes place in a mansion which I can't find.

Re: What sports teams do you support?

On this subject I expect to become a hard line tifoso by about 2300 BST on Saturday, Chilean and Costa Rican thereafter.

In various draws and sweepstakes I have amassed : Bosnia, Algeria and Honduras as my teams. I don't expect much return on those investments.

Yes, they would have to reduce them to 10 year old level but the physicality would compensate.

Re: What sports teams do you support?

One of the great fears in world rugby is that the US will start to involve all the college football players who don't go to the NFL. If they ever find the funding they could become a very good side.

Re: What sports teams do you support?

USA -v- Scotland at rugby later, 0130 BST. Could be a good game as we have a new coach and a new philosophy. Or same old shite, who knows.

Re: A life well lived.

While looking for someone else I was reminded of Field Marshall Ironside , born in Edinburgh, played rugby for Scotland, fought the Boers, spied in German SW Africa and the Middle East, fought Bolsheviks in Northern Russia, fought Pashtun on the NW Frontier, fought Germans in two wars, survived a nu...

Re: The fucking BBC, political bias this time

I've only just noticed this. Is that the same Boudicca who was defeated by Gaius Suetonius Paulinus? Yes. Does the interviewee think that all "Romans" went around speaking Latin Apparently, and also that they still do across the Mediterranean. or, as you suggest, that her little revolt ha...

Re: Writing with an accent

The good thing about sporting events is that people tend to colour code themselves, but yes, I avoid making any comment on an antipodean's origins unless I am absolutely sure.

Hey, let's not forget he shot his brother as well as elephants.

He did good work in the 70s and 80s but his time (and arguably the Spanish monarchy's) has passed.
