Would be fine with me. If the debt were downgraded to AA and the credit spreads reflected that, I think I might like to trade on that spread . . . I don't even know what that means. Whatever S&P say the US is AAA, so if they are rated AA then you can make money by backing them as AAA at AA rate...

Is state debt backed by the Federal government in any way? Who do states borrow from, I take it they simply borrow from the money market like national governments?
