I'm not quite sure what they are made of. They look like they might be thin sheets of aluminium, but it's hard to tell for sure.

Being flat (as opposed to glossy), I wonder if they are warping due to heat absorption.
No trees were killed in the posting of this message.
However, a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

Apparently they are thermal blankets.

Check out page 7, under the heading Thermal and Micrometeoroid Shield

I don't know, those Ninja Bullets they advertise on TV all the time look much higher tech and have so many other uses as well.
