Feckin' Hercules

Postby Мастер » Thu Jun 29, 2017 4:19 pm

So I went to a part of town I don't normally visit, to go shopping for a new bicycle. It's near the military airport.

Several Hercules (or maybe the same one several times) took off and flew low overhead.

They look pretty big, even though they seem to be a lot smaller than the large passenger 'planes.

They are quite large when you get up close.
Just hope you don't have to ride in one.

Fat Alberts are loud and uncomfortable.

What bike did you get? Or are you still looking?

I'd forgot the loud part.
Oddly, I've never heard the 'Fat Albert' moniker. Only had a couple trips in them though.

They're trying to sell me Bobben, which is apparently suitable for great big fat people who are more than 90kg. The "Dark Star" model, though, would be special order from the UK, S$1,300. I have not said "go", at least not yet.

Don't know the make but most bikes should take 90 kg.

Edit: Check Wiggle.co.uk, they have it on sale and deliver to Singapore, though it in't clear if that would be free or charged for.

I expected Esquimalt to be much further north than it is. I was wrong about the Fat Albert name, I thought it was a general nickname but it is apparently specific to a couple of aircraft. I emailed a mate of mine to check: he once flew in the back of a Hercules from Oxfordshire to Ascension Island to the Falklands with inflight refuelling taking somewhere about 24 hours. He says most of them took days to get over it.

Slightly odd that a UK site gives me prices in dollars :-k

But, if they are telling me Singapore dollars, they are slightly more than my local supplier. If they are telling me the price in Trump dollars, then they are a lot more.
