Not easily impressed...

Postby Enzo » Wed Feb 07, 2018 2:16 am

I am not easily impressed. Oh I find things interesting, appealing, etc. but I have to say watching the two SPaceX booster rockets come down together and land on their flaming tails at Cape Canaveral was FREAKING AWESOME.

The news came on and showed the whole thing launch, so great to see a successful heavy lifter actually work. I was pleased for them. And I enjoyed seeing the cargo they launched into solar orbit was a automobile, yes a convertible car, complete with astronaut sitting at the wheel. A mannequin of course. I loved that.

But when they showed the two falling boosters power up, flip out their landing legs, and blast their way back to earth, landing erect on their pads. I have to say I am impressed.

60 years later, the Werner Von Braun I watched on TV and the movies like Destination Moon, are coming into reality.

Bravo.

Probably, I was just watching it on the news channels.

A quick google search, here is a brief youtube of the landing itself

The main booster was supposed to come down and land on a ship, but it missed. But they get so many points for the other two, I'll give them a pass.

Musk certainly has a gift for making "inert dummy cargo" something Very Cool Indeed. And a triple booster landing (well, watering in one case) is big, really big for something that was, after all, a maiden flight of a new rocket.

Yeah. Impressed.

Stunning. And I liked what Musk had to say about why he used the car and how it impacted him seeing it out there.

On the other end of the spectrum I couldn't be more disappointed in Pence's attempt to claim the triumph on behalf of the D.Jong Trump administration and the re-energized NSC. Shame.

An awesome supremely great achievement indeed! Another notch on the way to interplanetary space travel 8)

Shame the 3rd (middle) booster had insufficient propellant to get into the parking zone. Would that be why there is a new Asteroid Belt trajectory?
