Hoarding

SO everything is closed, we sit around the apartment all day. It was a lovely day so I did do some nice porch sittin' and had a cold beer on the front porch.

But most of the day I have had National Geographic on TV, and all day it was ancient Egypt and lots about King Tut and the Grand Egyptian Museum. I am always interested in ancient Egypt, at least until someone decides aliens were involved.

But all of a sudden, an hour ago, it shifted to the Staffordshire Hoard. I am ashamed to admit I was unfamiliar with this story. Old farmer lets a guy into his field with a metal detector and he finds tons of gold and artifacts. Well maybe not tons, but large amounts. So we spent the time watching them curate teh stuff and explain what was what.

Pretty interesting, though it happened over a decade ago. I mean the find. The stuff was made in the 7th century.

Had to Google it

So now that it's been discovered, uncovered and curated in 21st century UK, I wonder how long it will remain carefully looked after? Will it still be around in another 1300 years?

But you didn't mention the best part of your watching Nat Geo. That while it was Egypt all the time, I played this:

Ah, the Staffordshire hoard. Shiney shiney.

(that’s my official archaeologist’s view)

Is it really a hoard if it isn't booby-trapped, though?
