Driverless Cars

Here is an article that argues that driverless cars may increase emissions.

But, it includes this quote.

Algorithms can’t get drunk, drowsy, or distracted, which are the leading causes of road fatalities and are largely responsible for killing 1.3 million people in traffic accidents every year. They are not prone to road rage, eating while driving, or fiddling with the entertainment system.


I must register my strong disagreement, and argue that an appropriately written algorithm could do all of these things.

I read something a few years ago that suggested "healthy lifestyle" people pollute more too. The logic was that if you walk or ride bikes a lot you will pollute less, but will live, and therefore pollute, longer.
