They can hide their identity, but SOMEONE would decide the world has a "right to know" and let it loose.

Yes, I didn't mean to suggest otherwise. Just a side note.

Here. Apparently the ATA concluded it's observations Friday and is evaluating the data now. I know from past experience with the SETI@Home project that they collect far more data than they can evaluate in real time. So I guess, now we wait.

Do they have paying jobs for work-from-home data processors?

Don't they have the deal where you can sign up and it uses your computer's spare capacity for number crunching when you are not using it?

Are there not several programs around doing that for various research?

I still have a couple of PCs doing it.

When I first installed the 3 Dell dual quad-core servers here I had them all running it too, but it but it heated the processors so much that the fans all ran so loud it sounded like the deck of an aircraft carrier. And the electric bill went through the roof.

This is an entirely different detection. There are three separate, active investigations going on right now. The Dyson Sphere, this radio signal, and the recent discovery of an Earth-like planet orbiting Proxima Centuri.

It's an exciting time!

I was under the impression that the Green Bank Telescope was supposed to have observed KIC 8462852 earlier this year. I guess I assumed that the observation happened and turned up nothing, but no. Apparently KIC 8462852 has just now been awarded GBT time. The GBT offers 12.8 times the collecting area of the portion of the Allen Telescope Array that was used before.

It's still under investigation. There have been several natural explanations proposed but so far, none that hold up. There is a new one that suggests the star recently ate a planet. I'm not sure how that one is holding up but I don't think it's been dismissed yet. An unnatural explanation is still on the table too.

There are still several investigations going on but I haven't heard any results.

This one's going to take a lot of time, not least because there are so many things about this system that are very, very weird. If I remember the BA's article right, the "alien megastructure" model does not explain all the weirdness either, so it, too, is probably going to be killed.

I agree. It's just the one that has held up the longest so far.

Pretty sure you could convince a few people that it's the end of times and that they should sell or give away everything they own, or their soul will burn in the eternal flames for the glory of some mystical deity. Totally their choice. Really.
