Can Earth explode as a result of Global Warming?

Postby Bob B. » Wed Jul 13, 2005 3:58 am

I got myself involved in the following GLP thread:

http://godlikeproductions.com/bbs/messa ... 33&topic=3

This is a topic I debated over a year ago at BABB and I'll probably live to regret getting involved again. If anyone wants to come and help I'd appreciate the support.

Seems that if it could it would have already. Global warming is a cyclical occurance and has happened before.
The whole global warming thing strikes me as pure arrogance on the part of those that think by reducing our emissions we can reverse it. Human caused emissions are only a fraction of the greenhouse gasses that cause warming. If we were able to completely eliminate our emissions and warming persisted what would they do then? Cap every volcano, dome over every swamp and rainforest, cut down all the forest to prevent forest fires?
It has happened, it will happen again. Our exhaust fumes are just speeding it up a little.

How ever true that may or may not be, it doesn't relieve us of the need to prepare for warmer global temperatures. Those still with their heads [strike]up their asses[/strike] in the sand denying global warming at all do no one a service.

And, wouldn't reducing our emissions be good regardless?

Sure, I'm all for going to hydrogen or any other fuel besides oil, for the health benefits and for getting away from the middle east and south american oil countries.
The one alternative that scares me though is the microwave satellite. What happens if that sucker drifts off target and hits a population center?

Heh...

It depends on which population center.

You wouldn't be saying that some are more expendable than others would you? Perhaps it would be a good thing to setup the ground unit near LA.

I think neti is another Dee in the making. She has accepted this guys theory and now nothing can disprove it.
She starts out with global warming causing the core to heat up then claims a victory over a study that says air temp is not getting warmer therefore the core must be causing all the heating.

I may play around with neti a bit more just for sport, but I think you might be right about that brick wall.

I haven't read the thread, but I've joined in with an answer to the original question.

Hey, why should I bother understanding the previous three pages of debate? The woo woos never do. :D

I also see that a new fellow named Doc has joined the discussion. Based on Doc's first post, I think it may be Dr. John Keller (jrkeller at BABB or DrJohn at Apollohoax). I sent Dr. Keller a PM over at BABB to let him know about the GLP thread. I'm interested to see what else Doc might add to the discussion.

I refuse to read it at all. I kill enough brain cells every day as it is, and I did manage to read everything that Solid Surface Sun guy wrote both at BABB and the other two boards where he posted. (hey, do you think we can find him and drag him here? it'd make things interesting--and he'd probably find out what a real ad hom attack looks like!)

I only quickly skimmed through the long posts. I dealt with this woo-woo theory last year so I didn't feel like wasting too much time on it.

I have thus far managed to keep myself away from GLP in its entirety. bored I may be, but it would take a lot for me to be that bored.

Definitely, and potentially even worse. There was one thread (I can't even remember the topic), but it was basically mocking the woo-woos by posting some outrageous and far-fetched claim. You know the ones; they're pretty obvious. Well... neti's post in that thread was along the lines of "I believe you," and she asked a couple questions.

I replied, stating the the OP was obviously "fucking around" and that she's apparently not a very discerning individual, seeing as how she can't even tell what's real and what's a joke. The OP confirmed that he was just screwing around and she never responded.

So, did they conclude in GLP that Global Warming would make the earth explode? temperatures have been higher before and it didn't happen. Also, wouldn't we be dead and therefore stop the CO2 production before the earth explodes?

Venus hasn't exploded and it has surface temperatures hot enough to melt lead.

Good point  Did you mention that in GLP? I would have loved to know their answer to that.

I'm sure that GLP will have some looney explanation for why the Earth would explode. Like, the heat will make all the oxygen spontainiously combust, setting off all the nukes in the worlds arsonals, craking the crust, releasing all the lava, causing the Earth to explode like the Death Star in SW.
