What do you guys think about the alleged Amelia Earhart photo that has recently been in the news and the subject of a History Channel documentary?
No trees were killed in the posting of this message.
However, a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

I'm trying to figure out why the kneeling person is clearly a Caucasian woman.

As it is a History Channel project, I will wait for the verification that Ancient Aliens were involved.


Every few years someone "solves" the mystery of Amelia Earhart. And then it fades away. This seems to me to be just as flimsy a story as all the others.

The photo has apparently been pretty securely dated from the late 20's to early 30's, most definitely not as late as the 1937 this story needs it to be.

Rough rule of thumb:

Is it on the History Channel? Then it's bullshit.

Agreed. I thought the case for the male being Noonan was far more compelling that for the female being Earhart.

I hadn't heard that. I did some Googling and found the claim but not the evidence. Supposedly the photo was found published in a book dated 2 years earlier but they don't actually show it. Have you actually seen t somewhere? I'd like to as well.

Here it is in the book, but my Japanese is non-existent so I don't know if there's anything on any page that definitely confirms publication in 1935*.

*Although putting the publication date of 昭和10 into google translate comes up with 1935.

It's a shame they would spend so much time, effort, and money on something so easily debunked.

I still think the narrative they presented is a decent theory, too bad there is no evidence to support it.
