Flat Earth

Postby Enzo » Fri Jun 22, 2018 10:22 pm

Oh boy, I opened my newspaper today to find a full page ad from
https://www.worldslastchance.com/

They apparently believe in a flat earth, and refer to Revelations 9 telling us demons are coming to earth disguised as aliens.

They explained the earth is flat, but you cannot sail off the edge because it is closed with a dome over the top.

Hey, I'm a Flat Earther on Facebook. It's rather fun. I have some pretty compelling arguments.

Well, there are two kinds of flat earthers. One is the kind who doesn;t actually believe it, but has put together arguments he thinks others cannot counter. Then there are the people who actually think the earth is flat.

Are you one who thinks it's round?

If the Earth were spherical, we would immediately fall off the sides and bottom. Gravity pulls DOWNWARD. This is very easily proved.

Stupid, stupid people.

In the Ham Radio classes that Cyndi and I are now putting on, we are finally able to correct some of this drivel. People had been previously taught that VHF/UHF propagation is "line of sight" in that it won't curve over the horizon. A nice story indeed, but clearly it can't be the reality of the situation on a planer planet.

My simple research has shown that it is the air density that reduces these signals over distance. The more air they must travel through the weaker they get, until they are no longer detectable. Makes perfect sense, right?

And of course, increasing the elevation of your antenna helps overcome this because everyone knows the air is less dense the higher you go.

I dunno, sometimes it gets pretty dense right down here at monitor screen level...
