Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Is it okay to kill in the name of God? Can ethics, morals and technology peacefully co-exist?

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

..if you experience such symptoms..get an X-ray or MRI of your neck first..chances are you have dislocated a disk..I've had both hands operated on..they only found the REAL problem later...Celebrex users..be careful..this med will mask disk problems... :glp-1doh1:

Thank you for sharing that Puma. I have a couple of problem disks myself, and can certainly vouch for them causing problems that appear to be something else.

Me too. Mine are in the lower back so I have weird things happen in my legs. Sharp pains in muscles, feet going to sleep while I'm walking, sharp pains from my hips to my feet when I cough or laugh to hard. One of these days I'm going to get it fixed but for now I can deal with it.

Ya think?

I've got one out in my neck too, so I get fingers going numb now and then as well.

*sigh*

I remember my active youth... When sitting in front of the TV punching remote control buttons wasn't such a chore.

Try trimming a horses hoofs one day and having your legs fall asleep, then you falling, then the horses hind quarters falling on you. (I swear it was a platonic relationship).

I just have scoliosis. very bad scoliosis--my hips are about 3" off from one another. (and I found an off-the-rack bodice that fits this weekend, but I don't have the $100! we're starting a "Gillian's birthday bodice" fund.)

...back from ranch chores..attended a meeting on the up and coming electronic tags for cattle...more gubermint interference...don't let your disk problems go too long...what's happening is that your spinal cord is being compressed and bruised...you may not regain full nerve function if you wait too long...I have permanent nerve function damage in both hands...about 5% in left and 15-20% in right... :(

Can you tell? I mean, do you actually notice a 5% decrease in function?

..my left hand has full function w/slight numbness...right hand is stiff and can't miss that it has lost feeling...my brother just told me last week that he will be having the same neck surgery...my problem is that I was taking Celebrex for the last 4 yrs and it works so well that I didn't notice any pain in my neck...then last Feb. insurance would not cover Celebrex so my Doc switched me to naprosen...as the Celebrex flushed out of my system my neck woke up!...Doc ordered a same day MRI and finally found the real problem...haven't needed naprosen or any arthritis meds since the surgery (April 2005)...also, because my problem was diagnosed so late my spinal cord was compressed by 7 mm's (Surgeon said the worst he had seen before was 4 mm's)...one of the first signs will be one or both of your elbows becoming painful or sensitive to vibration (like driving)..IF YOU ARE HAVING PROBLEMS LIKE I HAVE DESCRIBED GET IT CHECKED OUT...

For the time being, I only seem to get the numbness and/or tingling when I get into certain positions. It doesn't sound like I should screw around and put off getting things checked out though.

Thanks.

I occasionally have numbness in my fingers as well, but it is caused by pressure on the ulna nerve in my elbow. If the ulna nerve is the cause, the numbness will be in the little finger and ring finger. It got pretty bad at one time and I started experiencing pain in my arm and even into my neck. I didn’t mess around with it and went to a doctor.

For me the problem was solved with anti-inflammatory drugs and by simply avoiding certain activities. Leaning on your elbows is really bad as well as keeping your elbows in a tightly bent position for long periods of time. I now always try to work or sleep in such position that my elbows are never bent more than 90-degrees, and preferably less. About the only time I have a problem now is if I fall asleep with my elbow(s) bent. I may wake up with numbness, but as soon as I straighten out my arms it goes away.

Yeah, that's it. But I get this in my left arm even with it streatched out straight some times, if I am laying on it.

I’m not in the medical profession so my speculation doesn’t care much weight, but it sounds to me like it might be the ulna nerve. Of course I suppose it’s possible the pinch could be somewhere other than your elbow.

FYI, it is my understanding carpal tunnel syndrome affects the thumb, index and middle fingers.

That would be the median nerve. But doesn't the ulna nerve pass through there too? Wouldn't it be possible for either/both nerves to be effected? That's just a guess.

The carpal tunnel is the part of the wrist through which the median nerve passes. I'm pretty sure the ulnar* nerve passes through a different part of the wrist.

* I previously called it the ulna nerve. The ulna is a bone in the forearm, the nerve is called the ulnar.
