Conservative Bible Project

Is it okay to kill in the name of God? Can ethics, morals and technology peacefully co-exist?

Because the current one is tainted by liberals. Who knew the Council of Nicea were Democrats?

Have conservatives always been this bad or is it getting worse? Maybe I'm just noticing more.

Commies! The lot of 'em.

Edited to add: The council were commies, not the conservatives.

liberals will oppose this effort, but they will have to read the Bible to criticize this, and that will open their minds

So, I see no problem, you can walk into the local bible shop, and they'll have conservative bibles, liberal bibles, communist bibles, fascist bibles, anarchist bibles, libertarian bibles, monarchist bibles, republican bibles, etc. Then you can choose the one that suits you. Divine endorsement of your belief system!

My favourite is: "Isaac Newton, who was merely an average student, worked on translating the Bible and that gave him the inspiration and insight for inventing calculus, developing mechanics, and discovering gravity."

Good stuff - I'd hate to have been alive before Newton, what with all the floating about and whatnot.

I followed the link to the LOLCat Bible and it makes more sense than the conservative one.

I think yes, basically, they are (although it depends on what you understand to be conservative - the part of the political spectrum that is considered conservative over here would be regarded as liberal in the U. S., and as socialist by Dragon Star).

The difference is, 1, they have more exposure than in the good old days in God's Own Country when the opening of a Burger King was considered the cultural highlight of the decade; 2, they act in an environment where loudness is at a premium; and 3, they have lost a realistic power option: After eight years of a President form their ranks who everyone except the blindest believer would recognize as the obvious and total failure that he was + 8 years of a President who was what they called the devil incarnate, they just had no option towards the middle of the spectrum. Kind of what you get with Labour in Britain or the Social Democats in Bavaria, who seem to live in a Socialist fantasyland after a long, long drought on the opposition branches.

When Jerry Falwell died, I read an extended obituary which brought out a point I hadn't really appreciated. Apparently, prior to the 1980s, the prevailing view among many fundamentalists was that society was corrupt, and they had to withdraw, and form their own communities. Falwell instead pushed the idea that they should participate actively in the political process, attempting to put their mark on society, rather than living in their own isolated communities.

So it's not so much that the people have changed, but their position regarding their relation to the rest of society has changed, from withdrawal and separation to active participation. At least, that's what the author of that particular obituary claimed. I am in no position to confirm or refute this viewpoint.

That sounds right though. There are some quotes of his out there that seem to support this idea.

One thing conservatives have now they didn't used to is the constant drum beat from talk radio and Fox News. It tells them how to think and present their view. Now they have something to parrot around the water cooler or at the game. When Pat Robertson said that god was punishing us for homosexuality by sending hurricanes, there was a time when his congregation heard it. Now when he says it, a million regular viewers hear it. The whole Obama/birther thing just couldn't have happened some years back. But now with Fox and the internet, it takes on a life of its own.
