Fish on a Terecotta Pot

Postby hippietrekx » Sun Jul 09, 2006 4:02 am

Image

It's a walleye, to be exact. I freehand-painted it onto a terecotta pot that we took up to my Grandpa's grave on father's day. He hated flowers, but loved fish.

Wow! What an awesome job!
No trees were killed in the posting of this message.
However, a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

Please, Jimmy is trying to call dibs on *those* talents.

Meanwhile, I probably could sing or play an instrument if I got off my unmotivated butt and... um... *tried*. I'd also be a kick-ass fiction writer if I botherd to write down what I think.

Oh, I'm sure there's a lot of awesome stuff I could do that I just haven't tried yet.

Hey, Hippie, you're a great artist! Very well done...

Can't wait to see more artwork from ya.

(That reminds me... I need a comic artist someday... I would so love to be able to get someone to draw a comic for me...)

Great work, hippie.

But lemme get this straight, you made a fish that isn't waterproof?

What next, a solar power flashlight?

Wasn't planning to. :) You don't seem like a comic-type artist anyways, you seem more like the type that does decorative artwork.

Nonetheless, keep it up.

Actually, I'm not that into decorative stuff. I just do my art-y stuff for specific reasons. Very rarely do I actually do something without a purpose. Most things people ask me to do.

Right now I do kick-ass realism, but I absolutely ADORE comic-y art. I figure that once I master realism (and I'm pretty close. My art teacher is pissed off I'm going into science, not art) I'll have a better technique on the less-detailed styles. So, I have to STOP paying attention to details. Nutty, isn't it?

I've got like four or five images floating around in my head right now, and I might just get a few out on paper. One is this realistic, pencil-drawn, close-up, cropped face of a dragon. You should read my mind, the scales look so awesome, and it's eye is reflecting fire.

Then there's this woman sitting with her back facing me and chin on her knees, and it looks like she's got wings, but they're just stokes of color. She looks sad. It's surrealistic.

Then there's a few ninja/fighting action shots of this girl in a trench coat. They're very dark, and in panels. One panel is a close-up of her eyes. I think it's mostly in black-and-white, but the background has a red wash, and her eyes are dark blue. I guess the whole series is best compared to the art styles in the Ultimate X-men comics.

I can't visualize art very well, my mind works on more of the mechanical side of things.

Um, no actually. It was inspired when I saw all of this crap Winters had on a shelf in his bedroom, and there was this neat dragon figurine. It was positioned just right so the fire was reflected in the eye. The picture in my head isn't like that dragon at all, except the eye.

I happen to have the awesome power of having balanced left and right brains...
