RIP Edson Arantes do Nascimento (Pelé)

Postby Lianachan » Thu Dec 29, 2022 7:55 pm

One of the greatest players of all time died today. Winner of three world cups, scorer of 1,279 goals in only 1,363 games (a world record), and by all accounts a genuinely and thoroughly good man.
A-nis bidh fios aig daoine nuair a tha mi a 'mionnachadh aig dhaibh.

As they used to say, nobody can get past Jesus - Except Pelé

People can squabble all they want about who was or is the G.O.A.T. in football, but that is just that: squabble - Thank you for the wonder, the elegance, the beauty, the inspiration, the goals, Wherever you are now, teach them your art of football.

One of the most iconic figures not just in football but across all of the history of all of the sports too.

Our own football icon, Franz Beckenbauer, gave him a beautiful good-bye. They played together at New York Cosmos in the 70s and won the American Championship together, having been friends ever since: Today, football lost its greatest in history. And I lost a great friend. Football will always be yours. Thank you for your game, o Rei.
