R.I.P. Andreas Brehme

German wingback with an unintelleactual, work-minded, laconic, yet friendly disposition, died of sudden cardiac death this night, in his home. He was 63. Brehme is best known for converting a penalty for the single goal that gained Germany the title over Argentina in the 1990 football World Cup final in Rome, Itlay.

He has coined such unforgettable phrases like, "haste Scheiße am Fuß, haste Scheiße am Fuß" ("you got shit on your foot, yeah, you got shit on your foot") when asked about the reasons for a long streak of underwhelming matches. Or answering, asked if not sharing table and bed with their partners during the weeks of tournament preparation was hard on the players, "I wouldn't mind the table". Just weeks ago, after the death of Franz Beckenbauer, he said Franz would now go on to form a magic triangle with Pelé and Maradona in heaven. He had no idea how soon he would join them.
