Wow, KOS, you toseeked me :) I was just going to post this (damn log in slowed me down )

Do you think they'll do a Pope-like buriel extraveganze, or just let the crowds tear his body to shreds? What is proper with hated dictators that are executed?

Well, he seemed to have discovered Islam since he got tossed in the dock, so he should be buried within 24 hours. Or they may just toss him in the gutter. . .

CNN just said they'll show footage of the execution if its not too graphic. Talk about an oxymoron.

You guys have a very warped and troublesome sense of humor. Whatever you may think of either Iraq wars, this dipshit needed killing. I only regret that he wasn't tortured and then gassed.

Non-graphic executions ain't an oxymoron. Certain people have just lowered their tolerance for stuff that's been happening for tens or thousands of years. Hell, its just been in the last 100 years that this type of thing hasn't been considered a major event where people brought picnic baskets and kids.

It is precisely this thinking of "ooh, that's too gruesome" which will lead to the downfall of civilization. The barbarians don't think like that and will therefore win.

I didn't say I wouldn't watch it if thay show it, I might. ;)
Regardless, I doubt they will show the video as apparently he refused a hood and was promptly hung without one. I doubt if America will roll that vid. Looks like we'll have to catch it on youtube.
He pushed the death of Gerald Ford right off the news. . . And I was already for a weekend of memorial footage. . . RIP President Ford!!!

Some hated dictators just move back to San CLemente.

Well geez, I have not seen a paper, the TV, or heard the radio since Thursday. I missed the whole thing. I wonder what the coverage was like...

"The excecution of Saddam is brought to you tonight by FORD! FORD has a better idea...

CLICK

"Hi, I'm Billy Mays. You need to hang something? Now our new Power Hooks can do the job. If pokes right through the wall and hold up to 150 pounds. Now THAT is strong..."

CLICK

"... CBS Evening News with KAtie Couric returns. I am speaking with an Iraqi family - how did you feel when your husband was hauled out of your home and you never saw him again? DO you feel better now?"

CLICK

The History channel now continues with "The History of Paint."

Look at the heavy coat he's wearing:

I don't think he's dead. That guy in the mask looks a little like Elvis. Most likely faked his death and is going on tour with Elvis.

Maybe he read Dante's "Divine Comedy" and expects to be in the deepest circle of hell.

I actually felt sorry for him, his eyes looked completely terrified to me. I'm glad they didn't show the whole gruesome act. Although it will probably pop up on the internet someday.

Read some history. He was damn near right which was why we had WWII in the first place. Europe could have crushed him if they had some damn balls in the 1930's. They didn't, he did, he got western europe. It was the Russians that broke his back by being as vicious as he was.

How about Pol Pot? Stalin? North Korea, every terrorist since the 60's? All of these people/groups know/knew that the West wouldn't fight 'cause it would have been too nasty and bloody.

I am sorry, animal, I shouldn't have written my post. When I started posting on internet forums I vowed never to get into discussions with people who get personal with everyone giving a different opinion ("Read some history") and who discuss profound subjects using improper language ("damn balls"; "dipshit"). I have never seen these discussions lead to anything but inflated/injured egos and flame wars. The subject that we might have discussed is too important for me to lose to this kind of exchange.

You don't know anything about what I've read or not read. You simply saw my disagreement; ergo I had to be wrong; ergo I couldn't know my history since it was so painfully obvious that you were right that anyone halfway knowledgeable had to agree with you. Ergo it was perfectly alright for you to throw your gratuitous "Read some history" at acomplete stranger before he had even finished more than one sentence. Granted, my naked statement without elaboration was not more than a provocation, a bait. But saying someone is wrong is different from implying he hasn't done his homework.

Sorry if I seem - what would you say - completely without any damn balls to you. But this is not my kind of discussion. You win.

So its cool for you to be provocative but not me. Fine.

I was referring the the generic 'European' just like other countries seem to refer to a generic American. Its interesting how we can not get upset about these types of gerneralizations, but Europeans can. This is also fine.

It is, in fact, painfully obvious that you are wrong. Not only that, but you indulge in the worst types of distortions as shown by your statement "Ergo it was perfectly alright for you to throw your gratuitous "Read some history" at acomplete stranger before he had even finished more than one sentence." You HAD finished writing your first sentence since it was POSTED. I would not have been able to REPLY to it until it was FINISHED AND POSTED.

I'll gladly debate history with anyone provided that they know something about the period under debate, have some experience with how the world works, and can provide more than bumper-sticker slogans.

Good to see I made the right decision. You will never be anything but right, and of course, for simply disagreeing with you, I must be painfully obviously wrong. No further elaboration on my part is needed to see that. You know that without any further argument.

About the provocation - yes, I apologize for that. I do contimue to think, however that making a provocation ad rem ("You are wrong") is different from making a provocation ad hominem ("read some history").
