Well, here's to the triumph of mind over matter.

Seriously, these stories are not unheard of. Just ask any war veteran. There is the one of the first ever German football goalkeeper playing professionaly in England (I think he was with Manchester City). Of course he was up against a lot of prejudice, but his legend was secured when after the FA Cup Final they found that, having experienced a collision with another player early in the match, he had finished the entire match with a fracture in one of his cervical vertebrae, i. e. he had played an entire foortball match with a broken neck!

Ouch!

I guess the Japanese biker would have noticed for sure when he got off the bike...

PS - just saw a picture of German workers holding a sign that says "Wir Streiken" - I didn't realize "streiken" was a word :P

Biker had to change his name to Ilene.

Many years ago I was on my way to the tavern, hopped out of a guys car, pushed his door shut smartly, and walked down the street towards the bar. Two blocks later I thought, gee my hand feels funny, sorta throbbing a bit. I brought my hand up in front of my face and saw I had chopped off the end of a finger in his door. The end section of my right ring finger is half as long as it should be now. SO I walked past the bar another couple blocks to the police station and asked if they could give me a ride to the hospital. But when it happened I didn't notice.

I cut my hand with a razor knife a few years ago. I knew I did it because my hand slipped, but I didn't feel any pain. I looked at it because it hadn't started to bleed yet, so I thought that it was just a scratch. Until I dropped my hand below my waist and gravity took over. I wound up needing seven stitches. I thought it was pretty neat, getting to see the bone and all, but mom was freaking out. Aww. Takes all the fun out of it. The cut really didn't hurt until the nurse at the hospital put a rag full of iodine on it. YOW!

it would have been funny if his friend had been stopped by the police.

Indeed. However, I find this unbelievable. The impact was that great, yet not great enough to dismount him from the bike? WTF? Who doesn't look at a possible wound when you have PAIN?

Traumatized nerves don't always respond as you think they would.

True, however irrelevant. He was quoted for having pain.

Impact-->Pain-->Inability to feel leg at all (how would he even know his foot was on the peg without looking if he couldn't feel it.) How could you not look?

This guy must have been on a PCP trip...

Maybe he was afraid to look because he knew what he'd see.

Perhaps he just really want to win his race.
