Ike Turner passes away at age 76.

Postby MM_Dandy » Thu Dec 13, 2007 3:02 pm

Mr. Turner, who made "Rocket 88" - considered to be the first rock n' roll record, died early Wednesday morning at his residence in San Marco, CA.

Turner became infamous upon the divorce with and later the publication of his wife's (Tina) autobiography, in which she detailed his drug addiction and accounts of brutal abuse. Ike would later admit to his drug problem, but denied that he ever beat Tina.

Holy cow! I missed this! You're right: Ike was more known for his shenanigans than for his music, but his '50's output (and his work as a sideman) put him in a league with Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry and the like.

Woof! - Scott
Is there such a thing?

Lawyer: "Mr. Turner. Have you finally stopped beating your wife? Answer "yes" or "no", please. "
