British comedian Norman Wisdom little known now but I grew up watching his films, in the 60s they made more money than the Bond films did.
Probably unknown outside the UK but a chance to repeat the old story:
There was a debate at the EU about the building of the Pont de Normandie in northen France and what a triumph of engineering it was. The French delegate said it was "un projet typique de la sagesse Normande" which lead to laughter and uproar from the British present, which set off a furious exchange which was only calmed after it was explained why "a project typical of Norman Wisdom" is funny.
