Need to fly from Vnukovo to Domodedovo?

http://edition.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/europ ... tml?hpt=T2

All three engines failed? I would guess there is some proximate cause, rather than a remarkable coincidence at work here.

Bad fuel or no fuel would be my first guess ...

You mean, cumulative damage from previous exposure? I can see one engine failing suddenly from that, but three? With no warning symptoms before takeoff?

I am not an engineer, so cannot say if that is how it would happen. But to me that does not seem as likely as a fuel problem.

No, oil your visor.

I meant the thing flew through a cloud of volcano dust and choked on it. Or maybe a breeding cloud of hummingbirrds.

I can believe that "from Vnukovo to Domodedovo," there are plenty of erupting volcanoes I know nothing about.

You probably have a few hidden in Nunavut.

The crew possibly forgot to switch on fuel pumps while taking off, allowing air to enter the system, a law enforcement source told the Interfax news agency.

Perhaps cut down on the Vodka toasts before takeoff?

Well, that's basically one side of Moscow to the other, so I don't think there are too many :)

Yes, trying to take off without fuel usually doesn't work real well.

One of the fatalities was the brother of the president of Dagestan.

Another TU-154 ... :(

Four people were killed Saturday and more than 43 others were injured, four critically, after a Russian passenger jet caught fire shortly before takeoff, authorities said.

One of the engines aboard the Tu-154B-2 caught fire as the plane taxied toward the runway ...

And now this ...

Six people died in a plane crash in western Russia on Saturday, an emergency official said.

The victims were all crew members on an Antonov An-148 plane belonging to an aircraft factory,

Its doubly sad that the plane never made it to Myanmar before it crashed. :?

(It appears that it fell apart in mid air. Test piloting has always been dangerous, but they didn't do themselves any favours letting the media know that these were new planes that had been ordered by overseas customers.)

The Yak-42 passenger airplane was carrying 45 people, including eight crew members, when it crashed just after takeoff outside Yaroslavl Wednesday afternoon. It was bound for Minsk, Belarus, where the team was to play Thursday.

Damn. What is going on with Russian airlines???

Not that t matters more than the other 44 tragedies, but Germany lost one of her most promising ice hockey players, Robert Dietrich.

What is happening? The usual thing. I'd wager that one or more of these factors played a role: Outdated machinery, lacklustre maintenance, ruthless piloting, weak rule enforcement.

Unbelievable that the air crew of such an advanced airline / nation could be so ill trained. So. Tragic.

I suppose they were completely disoriented and the younger aircrew, who were on the flight deck at the time, lacked the experience and confidence to make the correct decision.

My point, tubes, is that this was Air France, not Congo Discount Airlines.

They should have been trained in classrooms and simulators, graded, and trained again. They should dream about correct emergency proceedures when that particular plane goes into a stall. And get it right!

Perhaps that is not the correct or complete story. If true, it is so. wrong. :x
