I listened to radio feature about äsouth Sudan yesterday: Many, many problems: No economy, no education or health system, the army that won the independence war torn with rebellion, corruption, corruption, corruption and corruption - but at least they aren't liable to be butchered by the thousands at the the hands of the North's terror regime.

I know you're kidding but that seems to be a common misconception.
All of Sub-Sahara Africa is the same: starving dirt-poor Black people with AK-47s and AIDS running around the jungle. And crocodiles.
As if the no news is good news rule-of-thumb has been changed in no news is like all the bad news.
Most of Africa has plenty of problems but it is hardly a perpetual disaster area. Some places are even doing fairly well.

Most Americans cannot find Iraq or Afghanistan on a world map, and we are fighting wars there. Sudan? We are lucky if we have even heard of it. And Burkina Faso was a movie actress, right?
