Now I'll never get to meet our Dear Leader.

Saw a headline a while back, "Kim Jong Ill or Kim Jong Well?" I guess we know the answer now.

The antithesis of Vaclav Havel. It turns out DPRK is a hereditary monarchy.

So there was the Great Leader and the Dear Leader. What's next?

The Worker's Party put out some letter which described Kim Jong Un as the "Great Successor". These titles are definitely getting suckier with each generation.

South korea's army didn't go into highest alarm mode for nothing...

F.A.Z. speculated he might have been helped surgically to resemble his gramp more in order to suggest all will be as much like paradise as in the fifties...

The God-Emperor is dead.

Long live the God-Emperor!

At first, I was amused by the images of people in the DPRK weeping and wailing at the news. How phony, how staged. I am sure if any citizen had laughed and gone skipping off down the street singing “Ding dong, the witch is dead” they would have been shot in the back before the second line.

Then, soberly, the thought struck me that perhaps those peoples' grief was sincere. Human minds can so easily be manipulated to believe the ludicrously untrue, to imagine monsters as living gods, that perhaps they saw this despot as their savior.

Another despot bites the dust. The dust is a great leveller.

That evokes an interesting question: Will the Great successor have one? The answer will tell us a lot about the future of North Korea.

Hey, a little understanding foe Kim Jong Il. How would you be, if every day was a bad hair day?

I just want to know is Kim Jong Unstable?

Perhaps if they ground up KJI and made soylent green out of him, then he could feed the country.

Is he unstable? Haven't seen too much of him so far . . .

He was a rather small fellow, he wouldn't have fed very many.

As opposed to the occupant, who was something out of the 1940s.

He was born in the Far Eastern Federal District.

ETA - the correct statement should be, he was born in a place which is today located in the Far Eastern Federal District.

The Newbie looks like he's caught in the headlights in every photo I see him in. I wonder who's really in charge - him or someone pulling the strings.

What a mess in a messed-up country. Ugh!
