Apparently the National Geographic Channel now has a programme called "Cycling's Greatest Fraud".

Why am I not surprised. I used to watch Nat Geo channel to see archaeology, ancient Egyptians or Etruscans, maybe Mayans. And Lava, love to watch lava flow. Plate tectonics? I been into that since before it was generally accepted. But now? It seems to have devolved into all prisons and law enforcement all the time. If it isn't cops in Alaska, it is some super-max California prison. Or bike fraud. Come on NG, I want some whales or dinosaurs or evolution of primates. I want to see 65 million year old iridium. Hell, show me the salt mines under Detroit. And of course semi-clad Samoan girls are always interesting.

I got a year's subscription to NG when I was in 7th grade. Lot's of good stuff about New England, the Antartic, and the Caribbean. Man, was I disappointed.

I used to subscribe to piles of magazines. I have pared it back, and Nat Geo would be the last one I would drop were I to stop reading.

Mum subscribed to NG when we were kids. She used to have piles of them dating from the '70s all over the house.

Every-time we used to go back home to visit before the internet was invented, there was always time for old browsing nostalgia.

Now its wikipedia, google, and you guys

Yet, oddly enough when the newspaper quiz said "name a magazine that begins with the letter 'N', that is known for maps and stories about exotic lands", you didn't come up with National Geographic.

Bite me.

There was a quiz about things starting with N. One question was name a magazine that features maps and stories about exotic lands, so I thought "Conde Nast."

Dumb broad is mad because she never heard of it. Nast was the guy's name, dear.

And in La Vuelta a 41 year old who has never finished in the top ten of a Grand Tour before is only 3 seconds off the lead with a couple of days to go. Not Armstrong but a former teammate of his. And he is ahead of younger riders who have won GTs before. If he isn't stripped of this I will be mighty surprised.

The UCI report is out now and it tells us everything we already knew, and the media is giving cycling another kicking. Which is particularly galling as the tennis at the weekend had Greg Rusedski commentating, Rio Ferdinand was trotted out for the football, Dave Moorcroft was at the athletics etc.

For those outside the UK: Rusedski tested positive for drugs, suggested it might be a tainted supplement without any evidence to back it up and the LTA said "seems reasonable to me", and let him off. Ferdinand skipped three tests and was banned but it was all "a misunderstanding" so it was a couple of months not the mandatory two years; while Moorcroft held UK records for decades after he retired with no-one asking questions as he was the head of UK Athletics, mainly due to his success on the track.

WADA have a list of names of athletes whose blood turned up in Operation Puerto and whose DNA has been identified but won't release them. The doctor concerned stated in court he had treated footballers and other athletes but was told by the judge not to talk about it. The cyclists stated they saw footballers and tennis players they recognised in the doctor's office.

Let's play along: Nadal and Raul have long been rumoured to be on the list.

Hey, I need to get this to my friend! He's a bit old, but he had asthma as younger person and his wife has a doctorate in molecular bioengineering. In fact, I'm surprised he hasn't won the TdF, yet.

Several points:
About fucking time.
Tammy Grey-Thomson isn’t to be trusted since she is alleged to have manipulated her competitors medicals to have them moved out of her category giving her a clear run at medals.
I trust Katherine Grainger.
Fuck the BBC who have been cheerleaders for, and employers of, every fucker accused of cheating long after credible accusations or convictions. See Ferdinand, Rusedski etc.

I don't know enough about it (apart from the BBC bit) to comment, but I know you do so am quite happy to accept that.

Tanni Grey-Thomson fuckery.. Her coach is getting the blame publicly but off the record she is.

I don’t know Kath Grainger (though I have met her) but people I know who do say she is usually in zero fucks mode and will burn the whole thing down rather than go along. I hope they are right.
