I wanted to give you a link to a citizenship test, but unfortunately, they don't make those in English. I am happy to say, though, that I passed my test for the federal state of Brandenburg.

Sometimes I like the death penalty too. Though not to the degree others here like it.

Well, he was at the pool bar again today, and mentioned that he would vote "no" if he could vote. No indication of whether this was a change in position since the previous day.

He's obviously an idiot, then. Feel free to drown him next time. Unless he provided you with any decent reasons for voting no? That would be quite a feat, as nobody (including the official No campaign) has managed to do that yet.

Can you provide me with any decent reasons for getting punched in the face at the pool bar? If not, I'll decline to debate the issue with him, or with any other would-be "yes" or "no" voters who might be here.

I would have thought a more reasonable request would be to monitor the situation until Lianachan's brother gets there so you can point the miscreant out so he can expedite the drowning.

Well I suppose I can do that, but don't you want to save your drowning for people who can actually vote?

I was going to ask, how can someone in their right mind who isn't bound by loyalty towards his home town choose to live in Nottingham?

That one exactly. Has changed in the meanwhile though. I don'T know if there is still such a thing as a Sherwood Forest. Maybe it's a motorway roundabout now.

First major poll shows "yes" vote in the lead by 1%.

http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-29096458

But another poll shows "no" in the lead by 2%.

Given the previous poll results, the Yes camp is probably happy there is a progression into the realm of statistical uncertainty at all.

An Independent Scotland Will Not be Allowed to Use British Oxygen

In a related story, the United States claims total jurisdiction over any individual who breathes oxygen molecules which were once in United States territory.

The BT/No campaign are continuing their policy of being as much like an abusive husband as they possibly can be. When they were ahead it was: "If you leave you'll never see the pound again, it's mine", "I'll have you barred from Europe and I'll be inside with our friends and you'll be outside with Switzerland" and "Who'll support you if you go? You're too wee and stupid to make it on your own". Now that they think we might actually go they're promising to take us on holiday and buy us a new handbag if we'll stay.

At least some of the press articles I'm reading are suggesting that this rather heavy-handed approach might be backfiring. Too far from the thick of it to really be able to judge myself . . .

The speed with which they are offering bribes to stay is illjudged and makes them look panicky, I don't know how it is playing out elsewhere but here the BT campaign fear losing big.

I do hear this one, but it's just silly. There are countries much smaller than Scotland which are doing just fine. Nine of the current EU countries have smaller population than Scotland (some much smaller), and several more are only a little bigger. Thirteen EU countries have smaller area, and a few more are just a bit bigger.

I don't see much evidence that being big is either a necessary or sufficient condition for being a nice country to live in.

I really don't understand why the Tories are trying to bribe us to stay, if we went they would be in power in England for decades.

Being a middle aged man in a suit, the No campaigners always assume I'm one of them. They seemed shocked when I said I was waiting until after the next poll to see them panic some more and increase their offer.

I would expect that if Scotland leaves, the parties in the fUK would adjust their positions, with labour becoming more moderate, and the conservatives becoming more radical, so that there would still be a multiparty competition. But the centre would be somewhat more to the right.

But even if my prediction holds true, it's not clear to me why the Tories would be against it. They'd still have to compete for power, but the centre of the competition would be closer to their end of the spectrum rather than labour's. So they ought to like that, no?

I found this one:

I don't want to buy new maps. Vote NO.

Someone answered:

Scotland will still be in the same location so will the rest of the UK.

There used to be some billboards around here that read :

Map thing made me think of that.
