Wales only narrowly voted even for devolution! And they voted to leave the EU. So we and the Welsh are stuck with each other! Scotland, though, must be set for a 2nd referendum now. And as I said to Arneb, there are a fair few million English who this time will wish them luck, even if it does mean razor wire along the Tweed. Rajoy says he'll veto Scottish membership of the EU, but we'll see. He's trying to patch together a coalition, with the Socialists and Podemos trying to do the same on the other side. Plus the other Member States can pressure Spain if they want to. So Heid, I'm watching this space!

I can't see us managing to stay in the EU if the UK leaves but IndyRef2 is certainly on the cards.

Rajoy is a right winger who will do anything to keep Spain together and has to pander to the neo-Falange but money talks. Mutti has him by the wallet, if she chooses to squeeze.

More the Memsahib's area than mine, but yes legally and financially we will happily step in as an entrepôt to Europe.

I really, really like that image. My inner eye sees his face, while Mutti, with her angelic smile, sloooowly ups the pressure on his, er, wallet.

Meanwhile, Theresa May (also known, as Richard A will tell you, as IM Mai in our circles) is the sole front runner for No 10. Although I won't congratulate you on that situation, it could probably have turned out a lot worse.

Meh, can't really tell the difference between any of them. It's going to be a total fuck up, and would have been no matter which one of that shower of arseholes became PM.

Richard told me how she sponsored some anti-terrorist legislation according to which studentsand staff at universities should report terror-suspicious behaviour to the authorities. That was when I coined the name "IM Mai", Mai being Germann for May (pronounced (like "my"), and IM being the abbreviation for Inoffizieller Mitarbeiter ("informal collaborator") - These were the people the Stasi used for spying on their own people.

From the SNP website:

Theresa May is set to be the next UK Prime Minister after Andrea Leadsom dropped out of the Tory party leadership contest.

As Home Secretary she led the charge on scrapping the Human Rights Act and was responsible for the xenophobic ‘Go Home’ vans. And, during the Tory leadership contest she has refused to rule out mass-deportation of EU citizens living in the UK, while prioritising Trident renewal - at a whopping cost of £205 billion.

Here’s a quick recap on what she stands for.

  • She has failed to set out how, or whether, she’d give effect to what people in Scotland voted for - to protect Scotland from the economic and social harm that will come with leaving the EU. She has said that “Brexit means Brexit” and that "there will be no attempts to remain inside the EU, there will be no attempts to rejoin it by the back door.
  • Theresa May refused to rule out mass-deportation of EU citizens living in the UK. When challenged to guarantee that EU citizens living in the UK can stay here following Brexit, Theresa May said only that this would be “part of the negotiation”. The Tories also abstained on a motion, supported by the SNP, calling on the UK Government to commit that “EU nationals currently living in the UK shall have the right to remain.” The motion passed by 245 votes to two.
  • Since her leadership bid kicked off, Theresa May has said she’ll prioritise spending £205bn on Trident. She said: “the House of Commons should, before the summer recess, vote on Britain's next-generation nuclear deterrent – and we should get on with getting it built.”
  • As Home Secretary, Theresa May led the charge to scrap the Human Rights Act. It was the Human Rights Act which enabled people to go to court to challenge the Tories’ grossly unfair Bedroom Tax.
  • Theresa May was also responsible for the introduction of ‘Go Home’ vans and posters. The xenophobic campaign was later scrapped.
  • On taking office as Home Secretary, Theresa May scrapped a legal requirement on public bodies to work to address social and economic inequality. She labelled the law “ridiculous”.

Planning to deport EU residents is all well and good but how many are there in the UK? No-one knows. I come across two types regularly this lot who work just down the road from my office and pay taxes etc. and the off the books farm labourers in east Fife. The ones with jobs providing a necessary service could be sent home, the others couldn't because no-one in government knows they are here.

Edit : I have just noticed one of the dentists has the splendid name of Pearly Alex, she's Indian and a bit brown so she'll be on the first boat home.

Saw that - superb. More of those.

They are inaccurate, of course. They still show ferry crossings into England from those awful foreigner infested places such as Ireland and the continent with whom no contact is required or desired.

The unionist media really are in full Project Fear independence campaign mode already. It's pathetic.

The last one panned out exactly how I thought it would, both the result and the reason for it. I have a much better feeling about this one.
