I always blame the juice.
There does seem to be an increase in the number of nutters about these days, or maybe teh interwebs just let them be heard more easily.
Edit to add: I just came across
this. Dubious or contradictory information in the immediate aftermath of an event isn't a sign that no-one knows what has just happened but is of course evidence that the cover-up hasn't been fully effective.
