Was this a failed suicide bombing attempt?

Postby Lance » Sun Oct 02, 2005 3:03 am

I have wondered for a long time why we haven't seen suicide bombers in the U.S. like you see in Europe or the Middle East. Perhaps now we are. This is a bit scary:

Police probe apparent suicide after football fans report a loud boom

NORMAN, Okla. - One person was killed in an explosion in a traffic circle about 100 yards from a packed football stadium at the University of Oklahoma on Saturday night in what authorities were calling a suicide.

"We are apparently dealing with an individual suicide, which is under full investigation," OU President David Boren said in a statement.

The loud noise of the explosion could be heard inside Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, where 84,000 people were watching the Oklahoma Sooners play Kansas State.

Officers cordoned off an area west the stadium after the explosion and nobody was allowed out of the stadium immediately after the blast, which occurred shortly before 8 p.m., about halftime of the game. People were allowed out about 30 minutes later.

About 9 p.m. a police bomb squad detonated explosives found at the site of the blast.

Jaclyn Hull, an OU freshman, said she was leaving the game shortly before the explosion.

"We saw a little bit of smoke, about as much as you would see coming up from a grill," she said.

Be interesting to find out what the motive was. Being Oklahoma, could've been a Tim Mccvay wannabe. But looks as if the bomb went off prematuraly.
I'm not a scientist, but I play one on the internet.

Or at least, part of it:

I really hate it when things go off prematurely. It can get messy.

But yeah, I wonder if we will ever be able to determine a motive. Perhaps we'll need to infer by stereotyping if we ever learn the bomber's identity. It may not be the best way but Homeland Security seems to think it's good enough.

Or maybe the story will get the GLP treatment. "Sanitized" to prevent fear among the general population? I saw not one word about this on CNN last night. I would have thought it might be big news.

Will not the GLP treatment be that the explosion was staged by the government, to create a pretext for declaring martial law? A suspicion that will be confirmed should the government declare martial law, but not in the least diminished should it not.
