I dimly remember when that happened. We started each school day by reciting the pledge of allegiance. I was in grade school at the time.

Oh really? I thought we were closer to the same age. I started K in '62.

I'm pretty sure we had a morning prayer and I definitely recall an assignment where we had to list which things god created on which days in the 6 days of creation. I don't recall what grade that was but we learned all about Noah and Moses and ... And this was a public school.

yes, I went to public school, and we also said the Lord's Prayer every day too.

K for me was more like 1952.

I recall the Korean War on TV, and even the 1952 Democratic convention. There was a famous photo of Adlai Stevenson with a hole worn in the sole of his shoe.

And his proponents at the convention were holding up these large signs of a shoe with a hole in it, with the slogan All the way with Adlai. I remember little else of it though.
