On to the British Referendum

Postby Arneb » Sat Feb 20, 2016 1:26 pm

So, it's on 23 June, 2016. Brits will have the opportunity to say Yes or No to Dave Camerons Total Reorganisation of the Way Everything in the EU Works, and Beyond. Such deep-cutting measures as not paying children's money to a child that is living abroad or to reduce social security payments on dirty continental European loafers deliberately losing their jobs in order to live the high life on social security in London are shaking the bureaucratic behemoth in Brussels to its rotten foundations. Now that everything is different entirely, how can anyone still want to leave the EU?

My special interest, of course, is in our two staunch Scottish nationalists. Will they vote

Yes, cuz fuck you, Dave, fuck you and your fucking self important, douchy Little Englander anti-EU fuckers, fuck you all, with a real, REAL big fucky thing. Fuck you and the racist, hidebound, bigoted, xenophobic scum you asshole fraternized with
OR
No, cuz No--> UK leaves the EU--> Second Scottish Referendum --> Scotland leaves the UK --> independent Scotland negotiates a new EU membership?

So how about it?

An independent Scotland in the EU is definitely my preference. With us currently still shackled to the United Kingdom, I should be voting for the UK to stay in the EU. Your other scenario has occurred to me already, though. It seems quite risky. There's no guarantee that another Scottish referendum would take place, and the British establishment would do all it could to prevent it - and then to cheat through it again if it did take place.

Anyway, if Scotland votes no to the EU along with the rest of the UK, then there goes the principle reason that another Scottish referendum would be justified - we'd not be yanked out of Europe against our will, we'd have voted to cast you European weirdos out just the same as our racist neighbours did.

Ah, so it's the direct fuck you, Dave option rather than the indirect one. That sounds entirely reasonable to me. The thought that Scotland might have to prove her eurowirthiness by having been dragged out of the EU by the English against her will didn't occur to me until now. I agree that is important.

Well, it's not so much to demonstrate euroworthiness - more as grounds for our 2nd independence referendum.

As I said before, I can see no reason I would ever vote no. Fuck you Davie is simply a bonus. Though actually Davie wants to stay in.

Well, yeah. Using the Stop-the-rot-from-Brussels crowd as a threat against Brussels and then hoping they'll just go home and stop campaigning once he has announced his abolutely fabulous, ground-breaking, game-changing deal. To be that much of an arsehole AND so monumentally stupid is a dangerous combination. Maybe he spent so much time with his Bullingdon boys that he just can't imagine that he would possibly not not get what he wants, every time, immediately.

Talk of rotten élites.

It is good you were among right thinking (on this topic at least) company, I assume they think you are "one of the good ones". Hard working Pole not thieving Gypsy, which are pretty much the only two types of Central/Eastern European.

It's a pity it's not possible for both sides to lose, fronted as they are by repulsive arseholes.

Indeed, though his Bullington Buddy Boris Johnston is busy pissing in the soup for his own ends.

It's funny how expats in Europe desperately want to stay in so they can keep all the benefits but complain they don't get a vote.

I had mistakenly believed that Arneb and I could vote if we established residency in time. This appears not to be the case, though.

Isn't it heart-warming to see that those who by their inherent superiority got chosen by fate to lead their country through tough times lead by moral example displaying the deep and earnest friendship, the trust and loyalty that they rightly expect from their British subjects?

Michael Gove is an arse. An expression you can use in any and all circumstances.

This time Gove claims the Remain campaign are trying to frighten people into staying in the EU. His reasoned position for Scotland staying in the UK.

I saw a very rare thing last night - a Scottish Tory politician. Mary Scanlon MSP, a list MSP for the Highlands, was at a thing I was at in a posh Inverness hotel. I'd been thinking she's not likely to be keeping her job, but found out she's not up for election this time anyway.
