English politician talks about the UK parliament without mentioning the third largest party in it, lead by the most vocal opponent of Brexit. I have no idea why I expected better.

Now that the Article 50 letter has been delivered, is this an irreversible process or is there still a way out of they come to their senses?

There is still a way out if everyone agrees, the trouble is May and others don't want a way out.

If the British Parliament were to enact a law stipulating that Britain will remain in the EU, and a note were sent to the Council that this is the case, I see no reason why everything shouldn't be the same and the process would stop. Only it won't, cuz the Will of the People.

What will not happen is that Britain remains even for a day longer than March 16, 2019, if the process isn't stopped. Everything that isn't finalized till then will not be in effect afterwards. The EU has made it very clear that there be no "oh, of course you can keep all the amenities until we come to an agreement that suits you even better" attitude. And I.M. Mai has said, yes deal or no deal, we're out, cuz who needs stinking frogs and krauts and cheeseheads and spaghettis and commies and dagos and all that continental shit for anything, really?

That is very plausibly a direct quote from our Prime Minister.

I was thinking I took this from a back corner of my memory, but couldn't quite remember if it was really I.M. Mai's quote. So it was, apparently.

I M Mai has called a general election for the start of June. Parliament needs to approve this with a 2/3rds majority since Pig Fucking Davie (and May when she was Home Secretary) said we needed fixed term parliaments to avoid uncertainty. The reason May has given for the snap election? To avoid uncertainty . . . :^o :---)

Also, it's not the time for our independence referendum since we should all be concentrating on Brexit, but a general election is fine and dandy.

Yes, lets piss away two of the twenty four months on a general election.

I was about to make a witty comment here or two, but basically, our two Scottish friends have said all that's necessary.

I.M. Mai seems to be looking at a solid blue (that's British blue, not American blue, whis the other way round, for our transpondian friends) majority this time (and why else should she cll an election), but I am curious as to the Scottish outcome. Ig I were Nicola Sturgeon, I'd hold back on the second referendum should anti-Scoxit parties have a strong day. If the Scottish map shows a solid tartan, however, that would make the case for a referendum stronger. Maybe not all of this election is bad for our Scottish friends...

If the SNP lose a couple of seats, which is entirely possible, that will somehow mean they don't have a mandate to govern in Scotland. Even if they have 80% of the seats. Or something.

If Scotland returns a majority of pro-independence MPs then that should be a Declaration of Independence. Even Maggie Thatcher said that's what such a result would be.

80% of seats is a lot, obviously. But I'd be concerned about actual percentages. You can carry a seat on SNP 30%, Labour 25, LD 22, Con 23 %. Since all parties except SNP campaign against Scottish independence, I'd be happy about the seat but wary about getting together a majoritiy in a referendum to be held soon.

The clock in my car doesn't illuminate, so you can't read it in the dark. Want to know what time it is? It's NIGHT time asshole, THAT's what time it is.

Not Brexit but an exemplar of the casual racism in the English media, even in the lefty Grauniad. The British and Irish Lions rugby team to tour Kiwistan was announced yesterday. Apparently you are either a strong Anglo-Saxon or an excitable Celt. Let's just assume for a moment that Scots, Welsh and Irish are actually Celts. Where does that leave the three black, English born players? Or the five with one English and one Welsh parent? The three New Zealand born, The Tongan, the Afrikaner Saffer or the Australian born Pacific Islander? Or the Englishman with the German grandfather? Ok he is Anglo-Saxon. Not to mention Tommy Seymour, born and raised in Tennessee with a US father and a Scots mother.

Edit: typo

F.A.Z. has given a worrying account of last weeks meeting between J.C. Juncker and I.M. Mai which really makes your bones shake, and which I recommend to the house. It's a crowd of laypeople with their heads in pink clouds up there at No. 10. I don't know what they smoked, but it's definitely strong stuff. Get sober folks!

And, of course, everything untoward the EU does is solely to "influence the General Election". Yeah, because Eurocrats want a loony leftie at No. 10, who will be a pleasure to negotiate with, everyone is so mean towards poor little Theresa. Boo-hoo.

The EU influencing the UK election is exactly the same as the UK government influencing the Indyref, and Mai was all for that.

Another good article in F.A.Z. about where the Brexit process is standing right now: "Theresa May charges into battle" (in English)

I.M. Mai used the wrong venue today (the European Council) to ventilate her generous intent to let dirty transchannellian furriners stay in Britain after Brexit. Donald Tuskcriticized her for the stunt saying that Brexit proposals were to be tabled in the Brexit negotiation rounds between David Davis, Michel Barnier and their respective crews. Title of faz.net: Nice try, Mrs. May!

That rolls off the tongue rather pleasantly doesn't it?
