Here is Edward Gibbon writing on the death of Commodus:

He had shed with impunity the noblest blood of Rome: he perished as soon as he was dreaded by his own domestics.

My prediction is, once you touch a congressanimal, you are finished.

We may find out if I'm right :)

I certainly hope that is the way it turns out. But I do see signs that saving America from dem goddayum libruls is more improtant to a lot of Red congresscritters than saving her from tyranny. They might actually like it. In Trump's America, Dems are arrested for treason, women and blacks know their place and climate change doesn't exist. What could possibly go wrong?

I think that for the most part, the Republican variety congresscritters aren't taking it seriously. I have not seen any mention of it from any of my representatives, whom are all Republicans. They have been instead patting themselves on the back for Japan's agreement to repeal tariffs on US ag commodities. Thune was especially proud of himself, pointing out how much he has not been distracted by the impeachment drama.

Politico reminds us that no matter what happens, not only will Trump not be impeached, but he will not be censured, either.

Thune has deigned himself to ponder whether Senate Republicans would consider censuring Trump. "I doubt it." Senator Cramer from North Dakota expounded "It would be an admission that they did something terribly wrong. I just don't see it." And finally, Senator James Lankford of Oklahoma compares Clinton's impeachment to Trump's impending impeachment. “There was an agreed upon set of facts. It was very clear [Clinton] lied under oath and it became a whole different issue. But the phone call is a whole different conversation...Everybody can read the transcript, and everybody’s got two different versions of what it was.”

Yeah, well, everybody can look at the Apollo moon pictures, and everybody's got two different versions of what it was, too.

The ignorance and stupidity of this man continue to amaze.

Apparently during a briefing, he was shown a satellite night view of Korea. The lights of Seoul were readily visible, and the lights in CHina. There was a band of absolute black where North Korea was, they don't light it up much. Trump at first thought the black area was ocean, but they convinced him it was NK. Trump was considering invading NK, but was told he couldn't do that because Seoul was only 30 miles from the NK border, and they could destroy Seoul from there with artillery or missiles.

Trump wondered why they put Seoul so close to NK. He said, "They have to move." In case anyone thought he was kidding, he repeated himself.

He wanted to move a city of 25 million Seouls. He was considering evacuating Seoul to fool Kim into thinking attack was on the way.

You can usually see Pyongyang in the satellite photos. The rest of the country is quite dark, though.

Donald Trump becomes third US president to be impeached, after 230 - 197 vote.

Trump reacts angrily, declaring that he is the first president to be impeached.

So in the history of the US, 6.82% of the presidents have been impeached.

During my lifetime, it’s 20%.

So that's two shot, but only one of them killed, right?

Expanding my scope, during my lifetime, it's 20% impeachment, but only 10% early departure (due to resignation in the face of likely impeachment).

The Kennedy Assassination (that I have no memory of) and Reagan's wounding. I was a bit surprised that Obama went eight years without being shot.

I'm sure it wasn't for lack of someone trying - they're just pretty extreme with security these days.

Which is odd, because at least three US presidents were killed by guns in the 1800s and very early 1900s. So why they weren't paranoid about this in 1963, I do not know.

I have no memory of the Kennedy assassination either. We didn't have television/radio in utero.

I hadn’t been born when Kennedy was assassinated. I remember Reagan being shot, and I remember neither Dubya nor Trump, curiously, being shot.

I was sitting in a high school class when they announced over the PA system that President Kennedy had been shot. I recall we wondered at the time whether this was going to be socially disruptive or otherwise change life in general. It didn't.

I certainly recall Hinkley shooting Reagan to impress Jodie Foster.

As a rule I don't even like to academically discuss presidents meeting early fates when I am online. I fear those are certain key words the NSA keeps in focus.

ANyone remember this?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Eugene_Corder

That happened just before I left my last employer and started my own company. We were surprised he wasn't shot down. In the DC area we are well aware of the various anti-aircraft defenses, and that the center of DC is a restricted no-fly zone. My sister had a Nike installation in the parkland lot behind her suburban home.

I was born a couple of months into the Carter administration, but I have no real recollection of it. I had just turned four when Reagan was shot.

So - 7 presidents, 1 assassination attempt (I'm not counting Mr. Corder's suicidal misadventure), 1 dodged shoe, 1 blow job, and 2 impeachments.
