As a famous German painter (a Jew, and a Berlin native) said in 1933:Ick kann jar nich soville fressen, wie ick kotzen möchte.

Dark times ahead. My OP was posted upon reading the most unworthy inaugural adress ever.

For a cool analysis of people who could have voted Democratic but didn't:

What went wrong for the Dems, and could do for the Reps:

The fellow sitting next to me right now is English, but I'm quite suspicious nonetheless. He supports Brexit.

Ah, then he's what's known around here as "a fucking idiot". Maybe he's not, though. He could just be racist.

Well, on his first day, he has already started dismantling America.

The National Park Service tweeted a comparison photo from 2009 and yesterday, comparing the crowds on the Washington Mall between Obama and Trump. The crowds yesterday were FAR smaller. He then ordered the NPS to not tweet anymore.

ASSHOLE!

These days, I'm generally OK with that. But perhaps you are referring to something specific?

I get where you're coming from but some of still have to live here.

On a separate note, it's sad how many people here think America became "Great Again" the moment "that nigger got out of the White House".

He got right to work cutting loose the ACA, he voided the low cost mortgage assistance. Poor people don;t need help preventing loss of their homes, it's rich people that need tax cuts, of course.

All the bowling shirt crowd that voted Trump, I have to ask them, "So you don't think America is a great place? Where do you think it is better?" Now for all I know, Sweden may be better, but I doubt any of that crossed their minds.

I do prefer living here, I have to say. And I would choose most of Northern Europe, maybe also Britain, to the U.S.. OTOH, I'd choose the U.S. over a LOT of other countries, Trump or no Trump.

If the German "alt-right" win and I have to leave the country, I'd probably try to get to Canada, Australia, or New Zealand. Maybe Chile, too.

Oh, nothing against Europe or other fine parts of the world. I am sure it would be nice as Tubeswell's neighbor, other than those giant flesh shredding bugs. but my thoughts were as Americans, Americans who have been such all their lives, what is their standard of greatness, and how do we fall short? Speaking to the Trumpies. Where do THEY think it is better? Myself could get along just fine in Sweden, or Denmark, or...or..., well I don't know about Andorra. I think it is near Spain? Oh hell, it's probably nice too, and not all that far from Nice. I could visit my niece in Germany, and perhaps the Knights who say Ni.

Trump signed away any climate related efforts. SO now the power plants can burn all the coal they want. With any luck we can bring the pall of smoke back to Pittsburgh.

So its President Trump now? Must confess I couldn't be bothered watching the inauguration. Has there been an assassination attempt yet?

I lived most of my life in the US, but I have felt like a foreigner there ever since the afternoon of 11 September 2001. And my alienation hasn't gotten better over the fifteen years, it's gotten worse.

I didn't watch the inauguration either, but then I rarely watch large public ceremonies.

And as to the new president's speech, I felt quite sure it would be more of the same from Donald. Asice from it likely verifying my fears, I know that whatever he says is just made up for the occasion, and can change by tomorrow, so why listen?

I use that term loosely, designating a newer branch of right-wing politicians who don't have the classic profile, especially antismetism - they often come under the guise of anti-politcal correctness and freedom of speech promotion. Pim Fortuyn, a Dutch politician murdered in 2002 by a loony leftie, was an example: An openly gay activist denouncing "multiculturalism", integration of foreigners and riling against religious influences, be they Muslim or Christian. Something of a forerunner to your Milo Yiannopoulos - but a lot more serious, bourgeois, and square, a man in expensive suits and a handkerchief in his breast pocket.

A bald gay sociology professor in €1000 salmon-pink suits as the leader of a anti-diversity populist movement, it doesn't get more 21th century than that.

Trump is #45.
It has been pointed out that the 25th and 35th Presidents both had unfortunate meetings with ...um...
'early retirement'.
