I think it was something along the lines of this: "I love your wall. It's tremendous. Huge, absolutely huge. It's the most luxurious wall. How did you make the Mongolians pay for it?"

Yep. I can relate. All my jokes are the same, and all his rants are the same.

He has the style of a spoiled child playing "pretend".

Agree, and his rhetoric is mostly of the "I know you are but what am I" sort.

G.W.B. made me cringe a few times but I've never really been embarrassed like this before. I keep asking; "how did we let this happen?"

Then I realize this can't be the beginning of that movie "Idiocracy" because it took place 500 years in the future and I doubt the human race will last that long.

Well the Orange asshole did it again, he has put that Breitbart asshole Bannon on his national security council. Just what we need: a propagandist on the security council.

There's a lot of crap on Facebook these days about one of the first steps a fascist dictator takes on his rise to power is to discredit the media. Trump has certainly done that, among his supporters anyway.

He must be glad that his predecessors already took care of that job for him. Here is the 2016 Press Freedom Index, 2016 having ended before the Great Orange One took office. The United States comes in 41st place, just ahead of Burkina Faso. What do Estonia, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Costa Rica, Slovakia, South Africa, Tonga, Samoa, Chile, Lithuania, Namibia, Latvia, Jamaica, Cyprus, Cape Verde, Belize, Uruguay, Suriname, Ghana, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and 17 countries in western Europe all have in common? They all score better than the US on the Press Freedom Index, assuming you consider more press freedom to be "better" rather than "worse". (My current place of residence scores much worse than even the US - that's pretty bad.)

But Mr. Utan is even convincing people that CNN is "fake news" and they're believing it. They may not be the BBC but they're not the Weekly World News (home of Bat Boy) either. Heck, even their arch rival Faux News defended CNN when that happened.

It looks like we scored worse in 2014 and 2015, though it's hard to tell how or why. Interesting that in 2002, we were ranked 17th.

Regardless, I'm not sure what a higher ranking would achieve. It seems that our score is most negatively impacted by the poor treatment of whistle-blowers and the lack of a federal shield law to protect the anonymity and confidentiality of sources. I don't think that changing those for the "better" or "worse" would make a difference in whether people believe any particular media source.

Edited to replace double-negative with words that actually make sense (Well, to me, anyway).

No, probably not. I think the advent of cable provided sufficiently many outlets so that no one ever needs to hear anything that they don't want to hear.

I meant as in "Orang", but I don't think I get the reference.

Possibly me, fumbling around with a 'phone instead of a proper computer. But I'm not sure. If it was me, it was accidental.

Orang == person
Utan == forest

Orangutan == person of the forest

I figured it had to be something like that. No biggie.

Oh, of course, I knew that. I was thinking about the coincidence of Orang being similar to Orange and how we have an Orange Monkey in the White House and all that... I guess I am also falling victim to actual facts being irrelevant.

Back in the 60s where I grew up there was occasionally a palpable tension over racial issues. It is beginning to feel that way here again. It's starting to get bad and I fear it's just the tip of the iceberg.

Going into the forest myself now, but I don't expect to see any orange monkeys. That's the next island over.

From the article here: https://www.ft.com/content/fde7616a-e6c ... 8452263daf

In the declining years of the British empire, some of its politicians flattered themselves that they could be “Greeks to their Romans” — providing wise and experienced counsel to the new American imperium.

But the Emperor Nero has now taken power in Washington — and the British are having to smile and clap as he sets fires and reaches for his fiddle.
