The one thing that the 58,000 US troops dead in Viet Nam and the 58,000 dead in the US have in common is that Donald Trump didn't fight for either of them.

Donald Trump has brought the world together. Pretty much the entire world now knows he is an imbecile.

the difference being, some are chortling with glee and furthering their own tyrannical goals, some are standing aghast at the fall of a once great nation.

At least may maniacal following of the 538 approval tracker is some consolation: The bold crisis manager blaming China and everyone except him shtick seems to have outlasted its appeal, and he is back to a -10 % net approval. I am not optimistic for Nomvenber, but not without hope either.

Joe, please don't fuck it up. Please don't. No gaffes. No spontaneous hugs, no patting on the small of the back, no self-absorved ramblings, no reminiscences to the good ol' times when you would work across the aisle with racist Senators, just lay low, say how Merka will pull through this, let the Orange One give the press conferences and do the work for you, and keep your stump speech at heart. That might even do it. Maybe some of the 26 million! out of work will warm to the idea that health insurance for all might do some good.

Joe, don't play Trumps game, play YOUR game.

Trump will throw daily lies at you, don't get sucked into defending against them, don't explain, just say "Consider the source" and go back to your own work.

Can't say I'm a fan of Biden (or really any of the candidates that were presented), but this is definitely what needs to be done on his part.

After Trumps appearance at West Point the other day where he failed to drink from a glass and then stumbled on a ramp I saw the term "Watergait" used to describe it.

Not the first time he used two hands to lift a glass.

Trump has expressed surprise to find out the UK had nuclear weapons.

Not in particular. I see an overweight, not physically fit senior citizen walking insecurely down a ramp or a flight of stairs with narrow steps in unfavourable lighting and him having difficulties lifting his arms above shoulder level. Neither of those is uncommon and can have a range of causes, most of them age-adequate and without consequence for executing office.

PR of course, is another matter. Roosevelt knew why he kept his impairment from the public.

Yeah, looks pretty much like a 'humpty dumpty' kind of walk, you don't want to fall down because you might not be able to get up on your own again.

This man is such a stunningly ignorant person...

Now he is planning a big rally for Saturday in Tulsa Oklahoma. it was scheduled for today originally, the 19th. Finally one of his Secret Service protective detail let him know that June 19th is "Juneteenth". it has been a big deal in the Black community for over a century.

For my non-USA friends:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juneteenth

Trump on the other hand had never heard of it. he asked around the office, "I never heard of this, have you?" So of course "No, Boss, Never hear of it, nope". SO now TRUMPUS has announced he has done this good thing, he, himself, has made Juneteenth famous. No one ever heard of it before, but thanks to him, it is now well known. So "out of respect" he moved his rally to the 20th.

And if that were not bad enough, it is in Tulsa, where 100 years ago - well 99 years - we had the worst race riots in our history. WHite groups burned the black parts of town.

What a fucking moron.

By holding this rally and others like it, he will likely be killing through infections with CoViD-19, some of the people that would have voted for him.

If that's not proof of his inability to see the potential consequences of his actions I don't know what is.

Of course, as I wrote that I had another thought: Oklahoma is going to vote for him regardless. A few more or less won't matter. Let's see if he holds big rallys in swing states. If not, then he is more diabolically evil than I could have ever imagined.

Don't forget that he is also completely incompetent, and embraces utter incompetence for his own sake.

The freaking Attorney General announced that the Acting US Attorney of the Southern District of New York, Geoffery Berman had resigned. Berman was investigating Giuliani and, if I recall correctly, irregularities in Trump's taxes. However, Berman then said, "No, I didn't, and I intend to remain in my position until the Senate has approved my replacement." At some point later, Barr realizes that he actually doesn't have the authority to fire Berman, but the statues could be read to say that the President does. So, he presents a self-signed letter to Berman saying that the President has fired him. When asked about it, the President said "I didn't have anything to do with it." Unfortunately, Berman has decided to step down, anyway. In his statement, Berman opens with "In light of Attorney General Barr's decision to respect the normal operation of law..." despite there being evidence that he has most definitely not respected the "normal operation of law."

One tiny bit of silver lining, though, is that it sounds like Berman's replacement is not a sycophantic toady.

EDIT: I missed that part that Barr and Trump are hoping to appoint current chairman of the SEC Jay Clayton, whereas Berman's resignation specified that Assistant US Attorney Audrey Strauss would be the new US Attorney. Most importantly, Strauss, like Berman, will only be the acting US Attorney. So, the upshot is that Barr and Trump will still get their guy as soon as he's approved by the Senate. It should also be noted that while Clayton doesn't exactly seem to be a complete Trump ass-kisser, his experience seems to be in corporate law, rather than criminal law. Which brings us back to "Why the hell was any of this necessary in the first place?"

I can follow your argument (and it's in the quality press here as well), but it doesn't so much sound like incompetence. It ssounds like someone is very competent at subverting institutional and judicial indepoendence. If you investigate my buddies, I'll have you fired.

They could have just appointed Clayton in the first place. They didn't have to say that Berman resigned when he hadn't.

Did you hear what happened in Tulsa???

Bunch of teenagers reserved all the tickets, like 800,000 or something like that. Trump thought there were going to be in excess of a million people there. But, in a venue that seats almost 20,000, only 6,200 showed up. The outside "overflow event" was cancelled.

I think this is the funniest thing I've heard in a long time.

Well, on one hand, there wasn't a limit on ticket requests, and as far as I know, no one has admitted to saying that they didn't request tickets because so many had already been requested. On the other, it's still a very good trolling. Trump and company had very high expectations going in to the rally, and the reality must have been a hard pill to swallow. Sad.

The look on his face as he was coming down the steps of Marine One said it all. He thought he was going to have a hundred thousand people cheering him and ended up in an empty barn.

This is apparently a regular event (it seems to be a standard dirty trick in many political campaigns), but the Trump campaign (and I guess many others) have counter-measures to identify fraudulent registrations and cancel them. I have seen some speculation that the campaign manager in charge of this event either (1) didn't believe the system was working properly, and was cancelling valid registrations, and therefore turned it off, or (2) turned it off even knowing that it was indeed kicking out fake registrations, in order to get high registration numbers and a bonus payment that was contingent on a certain number of registrations.
