RIP Nicky Hayden

Postby Heid the Ba » Wed May 24, 2017 9:05 am

Nicky Hayden was a MotoGP and Superbike rider killed by a car driver at the weekend. Raced motorbikes all his life without a serious injury and was killed on a public road by an inattentive or reckless driver, it isn't clear which.

I was at the race in Valencia when he won his world championship, he put so much pressure on Vale that he crashed in the first corner and never got back into contention.
Get it up ye.

I was very saddened by this news. I believe he was on a bicycle when struck and died later from the injuries.

That's a tragedy even worse than Schumacher's. All those dangers avoided, all those risky moments mastered, and then this.

Yes he was on a bicycle when it happened, which surprised me since Italy isn't usually too bad for that, though someone killed an Italian professional cyclist a couple of weeks ago.

For Llamaleader: "Hayden rode throughout his career with the number 69, which he inherited from (his father) Earl, who liked it because it read the same whether the bike was right way up or not."

This is somebody else who I didn't know of (not my sport), but it's very tragic. Doing such a dangerous job for so long and then being killed doing something anybody could have been doing.

That's exactly why I like the number too.
