A bit of a flap over this one, which is actually minor and what sea trials are all about.
Nice write up and listing of some other problems found with other boats during sea trials:

However, I made this post because when I read the news, the first thing that popped into my head was this rollicking good seafarin' song, and I thought this was a great excuse to post it.
(apologies to tubeswell if he's been overexposed to tunes by his countrymen)

Fucking shambles, and hilarious! Almost disappeared from the BBC already. They bang on for days about some pre-arranged project snagging at the end of the construction of a bridge which caused very little and very brief inconvenience, as it was a Scottish government project. But this! Billions of pounds worth of stick on hairy chest aircraft carrier with no aircraft, millions of pounds to repair, fucking useless. But that’s not news, because Rule Britannia.

While acknowledging the BBC hypocrisy this is exactly what sea trials are for, as g-one says.

Indeed, it’s the BBC coverage I’m getting at. Although the aircraft carriers are, of course, a ludicrous waste of money to my mind. Strategically obsolete before they were even launched. Plus, of course, nay planes, and one being mothballed immediately.

But it was built almost within sight of her so employment and drinks all round!

Even the Daily Record finally realises that Britannia no longer rules the waves.

It was all so different a hundred years ago . . .

Of course when Ocean goes they might realise they don't have a helicopter assault ship but they do have a carrier with no planes which could do the job nicely.

How about painting a few lines, et voila, portable soccer field.

Totally unrelated, but in the 'drinks all around' dept., one of the most striking things to happen to me on ship was when Prince William was born. The 'stop all engines' order was given and it was a tot of rum for everyone.
Now they don't even allow booze on board. WTF kind of 'navy' is that?

Fear not, the other two points of the Royal Navy triangle - bum and baccy - are still encouraged.

In the RCN, alcohol is prohibited while at sea since 2015.
RN now has prohibitions against drinking while on duty. ;)

Actually, they have specific equipment to discourage that.

I'm not going to risk clicking that at work, as I assume it's not some sort of fire retardant for tobacco...

It's a legit naval terms reference for RCN. A bit of awkwardness often ensued when trainees asked about the etymology of the term.
