I have a feeling that this skews toward "corporate freedom," as South Dakota is very corporate-friendly. On one hand, this helps extended family farms that like to operate as corporations. On the other, we are a small, but thriving haven for shell companies, and in large businesses, management tends to wield an over-sized amount of power over labor. Being "free" hasn't seemed to help the folks in Oglala Lakota County - the poorest county in the U.S.
