Jamal Khashoggi

Postby Мастер » Thu Oct 25, 2018 11:31 am

We don't seem to have a thread on him.

Saudi dissident and journalist for the Washington Post, went into the the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, with his fiancée waiting outside for him. He told her to call an aide to the president of Turkey if he did not come out within three hours. Soon after he entered, someone wearing the same clothes but different shoes came out the back door of the consulate. Mr. Khashoggi has not been heard from since.
They call me Mr Celsius!

Just to ditch his fiancée? Wow...
No trees were killed in the posting of this message.
However, a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

This seems to have resulted in the kick in the nuts the Saudi regime has been needing for a while, although words of course are cheap. The UK has stopped short of no longer supplying weapons to them so they can carry on killing Yemen civilians, but there’s increasing pressure to do just that.

Yes, once again, Germany takes the lead and gets the EU Parliament to take a stand. And once again, the British MEPs refuse to back it. OK, one could say that the Brits' action was principled: why should you get to vote when you're about to leave (and so won't be around to follow up)? But nah, I don't think that's what it was! So, let's look at how we have tried to reach an agreed position - the harmonious future relationship with the EU that Gove, Davis - and, yes, May - still think is possible. The European Parliament wants to sanction Hungary for the unacceptable behaviour of its government. The UK Tory MEPs - no, won't do that, we need Orban. The Parliament wants to suspend arms sales to Saudi Arabia for murdering an exiled journalist and bombing kids in Yemen. UK Tories - no, can't do that, we need those arms sales.

I would like to hear something encouraging for a change, like, he gets pummelled in the midterms. Just for a change.
