Damn, decent age though given his lifestyle.

No idea, at all, who this gentleman was. May he rest in peace indeed.

Probably quite co-indidentally, "Tripper" is the slang word we use for gonorrhea in German. Would that have anything to do with his lifestyle?

You might have heard this tune. A couple greats who faced similar challenges with regard to lifestyle.

About the time I became aware of Dr.John, tripping was the term for being on LSD.

Ah, it was used to be called "throwing a trip" here.

Not much of one really. Prince played 21 nights at the O2 arena (inside the millennium dome) in London throughout August and September 2007 and I had tickets for about half a dozen of those. For most of those 21 nights, Prince had also booked out the Indigo (a smaller venue in the millennium dome, next to the arena) in case he felt like having one of his famous post-concert aftershow performances. I’d been given tickets for the Indigo for each of the nights I had an arena ticket, so went there after each show in case Prince turned up and played. On one night, Prince didn’t play (or, in fact, turn up at all) but Dr John came on stage. Normally when we got the nod and wink that Prince wouldn’t be there we’d just leave, but we stayed and watched Dr John. He was really good. On another of those nights, the last one, Amy Winehouse walked onto the stage at 01:30 singing and Prince came on a couple of mins afterwards, accompanying her on guitar. This was totally wonderful. She left after that one song, but Prince played blues and jazz covers and deep cuts until after 4am. Quite something after a 2.5 hour proper Prince concert in the arena. Happy days!

(Amy Winehouse and Prince audience recording but you get the idea. We were at the mixing desk, so much better view and sound quality).

That’s pretty cool (both the reason for seeing Dr. John and the fact that Prince did an after-show like that).
