Good thing alcohol kills germs.

This may be why there are no Scottish cases. Better be safe - drink! Drink like the wind!

In all seriousness, the fate of my young colleague who warned of the virus only to be reprimanded for his warnings by the Chinese police and to catch the disease later and to die of it in his own hospital - that's getting to me, a lot. A drawing F.A.Z. published today, made from a webcam photo that made him famous.

Had lunch with Margarita in a shopping mall (that’s where most of the restaurants are) this afternoon, traffic very noticeably down.

By contrast, at a restaurant near the river now, it was quite crowded when I cane in. Less so now, but it’s almost midnight.

A lot of gallows humour.

Churches switching to YouTube/streaming. So I have to avoid a website, instead of not going in person.

Is that Mactep's Margarita or the drink, if one may politely ask?

And extremely unlucky. China reported today that 1600 physicians have been infected, of whom 6 have died so far. He was one of those 6.

The latter. Маргарита Мастера. Definitely not Мастер Маргариты.

So one new case confirmed today, ten people recovered and discharged from hospital.

That leaves us with 39 people in hospital, down from 55 a few days ago. Five in critical condition. No deaths yet.

Clarke Quay (I think our Highland Friend will know this place) is quite a bit less crowded than is normal for a Friday night.

My brother’s recently returned from Singapore and I’ve got a sore throat. And I do indeed know Clarke Quay. I’ll be back in Singapore this September, unless this sore throat kills me first of course.

Feckin’ virus.

Both Hong Kong and Singapore Sevens postponed until October.

Number of new cases exceeded number of hospital discharges today for the first time in at least five days. Number hospitalised is 40, up from 39 yesterday. Still no deaths.

One of my colleagues is going to Rome for the weekend, she isn't worried but it will fuck things up here if she has to self isolate on her return. There is talk of the Ireland - Italy ^Nations game being cancelled at the weekend. Italy seems to have fucked something up since they had an explosion of cases, my guess would be ignoring it until they couldn't.

Is everyone's favourite Potsdam Hospital on standby?

If Ireland were to win, Scotland and Wales would rely on the unlikely event of an Ireland - France draw in the final match.

Presumably, they would have the same problem the next week with Italy v England.

Italy are already out. If they make it the World Cup solution of calling the matches a draw, then France have a huge advantage.

Looks like in 2001, it was a delay, rather than a cancellation.

Sorry for being late. I appreciate the interest.

We are quite a bit away from Potsdam, in the wild countryside just outside the autobahn ring. Our arrangement is that we keep one single room at our (currently unused) intensive care unit stocked and ready for isolation and initial treatment of a single patient (drafting one nurse per shift from the other units). If that patient turned out to be Corona positive, we'd have her or him transferred to Charité University Hospital in Berlin, possibly by heli. Under the regime that obtained until last week - Small of number of cases under easily identifiable epidemiological circumstances - small peripheral hospital were not supposed to treat patients with any relevant symptoms.

If, as seems to be quite possible now, larger number of cases arrive, we'll act according to our general-purpose pandemia plan (designed for any rapidly transmissible disease, primarily influenza), emptying out one unit and putting 8 singles beds there (one bed per room), while discharging home as many unaffected patients as possible. We'll have some circulatory monitoring but no real ICU, being the smallest hopsital anywhere near.

If the epidemic is limited or drawn out, as still seems possible, we might never see a single patient: Only the very sick would be brought to hospital, and those might be in need of proper ICU care. So the really sick patients may just bypass us. OTOH, we have a nursing home and a home for the mentally disabled on site. An outbreak there, with a larger number of cases simply in need of an i.v. drip, fever medication, a liter of oxygen per minute, a bit of physical therapy, and help with going to the loo might quickly make for few busy weeks.

Latest news from Berlin: There is a bar which, if you order two bottles of Corona Special, will give you one bottle of Mort Subite for free. Chapeau!

What kills the Corona virus?
Ammonia cleaner.
