The giant explosion in Lebanon is showing on the news. Apparently a fire or something broke out so people were watching from afar and filming. And then WHAM, a giant detonation. Government says 3200 tonnes of ammonium nitrate in a warehouse. That would make a big blast for sure.

Our stable genius president immediately labelled it an "attack" and vowed to send help.

The cell phone videos of the blast are extraordinary - they look like they’re straight out of the movies. Truly horrific.

300k people have lost their homes in the blink of an eye. 3 to 4 kilotons of ammonium nitrate. With an explosive force close to that of TNT, Beirut had something like a fifth of Little Boy yesterday, sans radioactive fallout.

Reading up on this, I am surprised to learn that Michel Aoun is now the president. It looks like his refugee status was only temporary.
