Pete Seeger's "Where Have All The Flowers Gone" asks, "When will they ever learn?" while Marlene Dietrich's version asks the perhaps even more powerful "Wann wird man je verstehen?" (I'm not sure which came first, although the German version is certainly starker in places.) But discovering Tom Paxton's songs from the 1960s, it struck me how much of what he says is directly applicable to the US today. "Buy A Gun For Your Son" could have been written yesterday - as, not quite as amusingly, could "Johnny Got A Gun". And I'm not sure the UK gets off scot free from some of his other songs.
What other songs from past era do we find still applicable now?
