RIP Alto Reed

Postby Enzo » Fri Jan 01, 2021 10:52 am

Alto Reed, nee Tommy Cartmell, was the sax player for Bob Seger for decades. His was the haunting sax solo in the song Turn the Page.

He started here in Lansing with local band Ormandy. Ormandy was pals with our band Universe. Shared a truck now and then. 50 years later, I still see their bass player now and then. He remembers our secret hand signals. But Rommy made it big, and good for him.

Alto Reed was 72.

Haunting indeed. The stage name was almost too fitting.
