Well that's what I thought we resolved some time ago, then Heid started to quote stuff from the Man who Would be King, so I thought the show had moved on, but then it swung back, and now I don't know if we're still supposed to be guessing about the Thirty Years War or some other thing entirely.

Not Cromwell, though the correct period. I could get tedious on the number of Scots who fought in the 30YW for the Swedes and then in the ECW for the Covenanters.

Nope. I think this film is set before oil was discovered, or certainly before it was commercially extracted, in Texas.

Wikipedia (which we all know is always correct at all times about everything) says Texas oil pretty much started in 1894, which is after the time this film is set in (1865, most likely).
