The film character is from Alsace, which actually IS East of Aachen (and to the South)

The first local mosque I saw in NZ was in the 1990s - it was quite modern and had been built with a turret/minaret. Caused quite a stir amongst the trashy xenophobic locals when it was first built. But that was yesteryear's controversy - there's quite a few mosques in these here parts nowadays.
