I actually made sure to PM St. Jimmy to tell him not to take my "fuck off" comment seriously, and to let him know what I was up to. ;)

LOL, good one, but I doubt Jimmy would have taken ANYTHING on this board seriously. We're all just one big herd of smart asses at IRU.

Of course, we've had our share of those, too.

This is probably written down earlier, but when someone is killed, the successful assassin inherits the victim's target. Do the kill words for the victim's target (who now belongs to the successful assassin) stay the same, or all they all new words?

They're the same words, KOS. The words go with the target, not the assassin.

OK, so here's the rather interesting situation that could arise. Suppose X is a master assassin, and has a target of Y. Y is not so good, but has a target of Z. Since Y is not so good, Z is able to guess one of the kill words. Z now has a choice. S/he can counter-assassinate immediately, and take Y out. Or Z can calculate that Y isn't very good at this game, and will bite the dust eventually anyway, and stay silent. X being a master assassin (of course, Z does not know that X is after Y) quickly knocks off Y. Z can then promptly counter-assassinate X, even if X attempts to get Z to say the kill word in a very skillful/subtle way, perhaps even a different kill word than the one Y gave away.

Do I interpret the rules correctly?

It seems to be an issue that could arise, and I think you may be on to something. Then again, Assassin R may be working on Target S for weeks, but Assassin M just got new Target N by killing his old target. If N gets all new words which will eliminate them, and M has to implement "muffin" into the subconscience thinking of N, then wouldn't R have an advantage over M because S has had "yellow" drilled into her subconscience for a few weeks?

Tough line to follow. The only truly fair thing to do would be to give a new set of kill words out every time someone dies for each player. But this may drag the game out for a long period of time...

Good point KOS, and one I hadn't thought of. It does seem a little unfair to X when viewed in the light of X's ability to coerce people. But on the other hand, figuring out the chain of targets is just as important as coercing your own target, hence the counterassassination rule. I venture to say that either skill by itself, along with a little bit of old fashioned good luck, can win the game. :D

Can we play a "First to get assassinated" game? I'll have a greater chance of winning that I am sure...

I've considered actually a variation of the game where there's no actual play thread, but rather anywhere on the board that a player gets their target to say their word and can link to the post in a PM to the game ref, it would count as a kill. The catch being that it has to be some kind of reply to the assassin themself.

Yup...

I knew pretty early on that teri was trying to get me to say my first (highly explosive) kill word, and what it was. But it was in my best interest to keep teri around so I could see who would go after her. And also, see which other words she would try to get me to say, so I could keep my mouth shut later.

At this point in the game, I highly suspect that my assassin is also my target, so I could easily win by making a counter assassination attempt against my current assassin using my first known kill word. I don't want to do that though, because it seems too easy. And besides, my current assassin as already giving herself away. I think I have it just about nailed...

Hmm, interesting. Okay, I'll give you my take on that.

If you're right, then your assassin is going to read this and wonder how the heck to get you to say any of your words. It'll turn into a long drawn out game that ends when either player stumbles onto a kill word, probably a newly assigned one, and it probably wouldn't be you. Surely your assassin would have no way to lead you on. It would be more humane to just get it over with and move on to round 5.

But if you're wrong, then your assassin is not whom you suspect and the game will continue.

Of course I can't tell you how to play the game, and even if you're right and don't counterassassinate your assassin might still eventually win. It's up to you; do what feels right to you.
