New Game: Fancy Names for Common Everyday Things

Postby Superluminal » Thu May 11, 2006 2:15 am

I was just looking at Umop's sunglasses, and for some reason I remembered reading about a government order form that had the term, " portable hand held communication scriber", for ink pen. What other fancy names can you come up with for common every day items?

Sunglasses=solar photon inhibitor

My dad works civil service and they call a Forklift Driver a "Ground engineer and product coordinator" :)
In my hands I hold a candle whose flame is small to see, And if I give but one light to you my life is filled for me.
But...In your hands you hold a torch for many eyes to see, So hold it high that they may light their candlewicks from thee.

Back when I was working, we needed a putty knife to scrape a greasy buildup out of some industrial ovens.

On the "Maintenance needs:" whiteboard, we wrote "putty knife". We then waited for weeks, as everything on the whiteboard was bought for us... everything except a putty knife.

I erased "putty knife" and wrote "2-inch flat aluminum bladed wood-handled grease buildup removal device."

Waited for a few more weeks, but still didn't get our putty knife.

Problem report: operational deficit caused by circuit path interruption due to failure in the current limiting component.

(blown fuse)

I remember one of those tragic instances where a mother throws a newborn baby into a dumpster, where it is found dead later. The authorities claimed the woman "Lacked proper parenting skills."

Reminds me of dead people described as "sustained injury that is incompatable with life"

When a fuse "blows", did it fail or succeed?

"Fornicating Feces" ---> "Fucking shit"

I prefer the former, though. Cursing in "scientist-ese" is great.

Would this game be more interesting if someone would post the fancy name, and then everyone else had to guess what the everyday item was?

I'd second that.
