That's innteresting! I have doubts, however. The authoritative website lists four Solar eclipses for 763, one annular on the Southern hemispherre, and three partial ones on the extremely Northern and Southern latitudes. Two of them would have been observeable to a dedicated stargazer in Scotland, but I very much doubt anyone would have describe the Sun as "black". On 55-60ish latitudes, the eclipses would have been partial with maybe 30 or so % occultation. That is not usually noticed spontaneously.
