I'm one late, but I think it bears mentioning that 529 AD was the year in which the first monastery was founded by St. Benedict of Nursia at Monte Cassino and in which the teaching of philosophy at the Academy of Athens ended under Emperor Justinian.
My late father liked to say that for him, 529 marked the end of Antiquity and the beginning of the Middle Ages.
